Inclusive Futures

Guest artist: Rob Young is an award-winning writer and artist. He trained in design, spent 13 years in photography and 20 years writing for the UK’s biggest film, TV and theatre companies. He is a Faculty Associate at NHS Research & Development North West.

Co-designers: Aysen, Castro, Rajah, Robyn, Thomas

When thinking about their ideal future, the co-designers discussed how few learning disabled people are currently represented in the news and media. They decided to create their own newspaper with artist and writer, Rob. Despite our work moving online, they wanted to create ‘an exhibition you can hold in your hand’. As well as producing a physical newspaper, they’ve created this digital version for you to explore. Discover the co-designers’ views on inclusion through their poetry, art, comics and even recipes.

How to explore:

  • Read or listen to the words in the newspaper – do you agree with the co-designers’ views of an inclusive future?
  • As you look at each page, listen to the music track suggested and have it on in the background
  • Spot Henry the support bat throughout the newspaper – there are 5 altogether!
